ABSTRACT A roller-bit has a tapered cutting roll, mounted in an outer anti- friction bearing in the body of the bit and in an at least one inner-anti- friction bearing on a trunnion attached to the body. The rolling elements of the inner anti-friction bearing run in a radially deep race-groove machined into the bore of the cutting roll and are introduced into the bearing, through a substantially axial filler-hole in the body. The outer anti-friction bear- ing in the body of the bit has tapered rollers, and the filler-hole for the rolling elements of the inner anti-friction bearing, is arranged to run in the body radially inwardly of the inner race of the tapered roller-bearing.
