The invention relates to a roller such as for application in the inking machinery of a printing machine, comprising a central shaft to be journalled in the printing machine and a shell extending concentrically around said shaft. Essentially the shell and shaft are made of plastic material, whereas at both ends of the shaft respective metal jackets are provided extending up to the respective frontal ends of the shaft. Preferably the frontal ends of the shell too are provided with metal jacket-shaped parts.
