A rolling-contact bearing comprises an inner race 12 forced on to a shaft 6, an outer race 14 carried in a wheel, a pair of seals 18 respectively attached to openings between the inner and outer races at opposite ends thereof, and a shield 20 for shutting off each of the openings. The shields 20 is effective to prevent any deformation of the seals 18 due to collision of ice or gravel, deterioration or loss of packed grease due to entrance of moisture into the bearing, and rusting inside of the bearing.

Un palier à contact roulant comprend une bague intérieure 12 poussée contre un arbre 6, une bague extérieure 14 portée dans une roue, une paire de joints d'étanchéité 18 fixés respectivement aux ouvertures entre la bague intérieure et la bague extérieure aux extrémités opposées, et un élément de protection 20 pour fermer chacune des ouvertures. Les éléments de protection 20 servent à prévenir la déformation des joints d'étanchéité 18 par suite des impacts de glace ou de gravier, la détérioration ou la perte de graisse par suite d'une inflitration d'humidité dans le palier, et la rouille à l'intérieur du palier.
