ROLLING SHUTTER GOVERNOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A speed governed counterbalanced rolling shutter assembly has been provided. The assembly includes a rod horizontally arranged and rigidly connected at both ends to a window frame, a drum which is rotatably supported on and coaxial to the rod, a rolling shutter fastened at one end to the drum, a torsion spring having one end connected to the rod and the other end connected to the drum, a sealed chamber disposed within a portion of the drum and through which the rod extends, a stator core affixed to the rod and disposed within the sealed chamber, and a high viscosity liquid interposed between the stator core an the confines of the sealed chamber. The invention limits the rate of speed at which a rolling shutter for a closure can be lowered; and is particularly useful for controlling the rate of descent of a rolling shutter which is capable of closing automatically during an emergency, and thereby reduces the risk of injury from such a shutter slamming closed.
