A roof covering material is provided, as well as its method of manufacture, wherein a substrate, preferably of a fibrous material is provided, with a bituminous material, preferably asphalt coating, on opposite surfaces thereof with granules being applied to an upper surface thereof and at least partially embedded in the bituminous material and with a discontinuous top layer applied to the granule/bituminous material. The discontinuous top layer is preferably a polymeric material, and openings are provided therein, for passage of fluids therethrough, to avoid moisture, volatiles, and other fluid materials from being trapped beneath the top layer. Various techniques for application of the various materials, and for chemical treatment, are likewise provided.

La présente invention concerne un matériau de couverture, ainsi que son procédé de fabrication, caractérisé en ce quun substrat, de préférence de matériau fibreux, est pourvu dun matériau bitumineux, de préférence un revêtement dasphalte, sur des surfaces opposées de celui-ci, des granules étant appliqués sur une surface supérieure de celui-ci et au moins partiellement incorporés dans le matériau bitumineux et une couche supérieure discontinue étant appliquée sur les granules/matériau bitumineux. La couche supérieure discontinue est de préférence un matériau polymère, et des ouvertures sont disposées dans celle-ci, pour le passage de fluides à travers celles-ci, afin déviter que lhumidité, des volatils, et dautres matériaux fluides soient piégés au-dessous de la couche supérieure. La présente invention concerne en outre différentes techniques pour lapplication des différents matériaux, et pour le traitement chimique.
