A structure for use on substantially horizontal roofs for supporting items such as gas pipelines comprises a support base having a large horizontal flange and an integral upright post. The device includes shell members which may be clamped to the post to structurally extend the post upward to the support surface for the pipe or similar implement. The shell members include arms which extend upwardly and over the device being supported but permit horizontal movement of the device supported so that sideways thrusts under thermal expansion are not transmitted to the support base. The device may be used with either new construction or in retrofitting supports to existing roofs and pipes or other implements to be supported on the roof.
