A roofing hoist for transporting shingles from the ground to the roof of a structure is presented. The roofing hoist comprising a tray pivotally mounted to a bracket assembly with the bracket assembly slidably disposed on a pole or rail. The tray is receptive to a bundle of roofing shingles. A winch is secured at the lower end of the rail, the winch including a cable which is extended upwardly along the rail. A bracket is secured to the rail near the upper end thereof and is attached to the roof. A pulley is secured to the rail near the upper end thereof. The cable extending upwardly along the rail is mounted onto the pulley and continues downwardly along the rail from the pulley to the bracket assembly where it is attached. An angled guide bar is secured to the rail near the upper end thereof and extends therefrom at angled in the general direction of the structure having the roof. During use, the bracket assembly and the tray are lowered to a loading position. A roofing bundle is loaded into the tray and the winch is activated to drive the bracket assembly and the tray in an upward direction. When the bracket assembly reaches the top of its travel, the bracket assembly hits a stop. Prior to the bracket assembly reaching the stop, the upper portion of the tray contacts the angled guide bar which causes the tray to pivot towards the roof as the bracket assembly continues to move upwardly. At the stop position, the tray is pivoted by the angled guide bar to a position slightly past vertical whereby the roofing bundle falls out of the tray onto the roof. Once the tray has been unloaded it is lowered by activating the winch to drive the bracket assembly and the tray in a downward direction. When the bracket assembly reaches the bottom of its travel, the winch is stopped and the bracket assembly and the tray are held in this position, where another bundle of roofing shingles may be loaded and transported up to the roof.
