A root cutting shovel blade has a first concave surface extending between a longitudinally aligned handle shank and a radially spaced apart array of cutting teeth spaced apart around a curved edge of the first concave surface opposed to the handle shank, an opposed pair of side edges extending around the first concave surface between the handle shank and the curved edge of the first concave surface opposed to the handle shank, the radially spaced apart array of cutting teeth having stamped thereon a correspon- ding substantially parallel spaced apart array of longitudinal creases so as to form a corresponding substantially parallel spaced apart array of second concave surfaces on the radially spaced apart array of cutting teeth, one of the second concave surfaces per tooth of the array of cutting teeth, wherein the cutting teeth have curvilinear cutting edges.
