ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rope descent control brake is disclosed which has at least three parts hinged together, each having an opening to permit passage of a rope therethrough. When someone wearing a safety harness attached to the brake wishes to move along the rope, he folds the three parts together so that the openings are more or less aligned and the rope can freely slide through them. When he wishes to stop, he simply releases the three parts so that the rope, possibly with spring assist, will move the three parts to an extended position in which the rope is braked against further movement.
