This invention relates to novel rosin-fatty acid vinylic polymer compositions and the process for preparing them. In particular, the invention relates to novel rosin-fatty acid vinylic polymer compositions that exhibit properties which make them useful as components of paper sizes, as components of coatings, and as support resins for producing polymer latices that can be employed in formulating water-based coatings and inks. More particularly, these rosin-fatty acid vinylic polymer compositions are mixtures that are produced by the addition polymerization reaction of vinylic monomers in the presence of saturated fatty acids, hydrogenated dimer acids, hydrogenated rosins, or mixtures thereof.

L'invention concerne de nouvelles compositions vinyliques colophane-acide gras et leur procédé de préparation. En particulier, l'invention concerne de nouvelles compositions polymères vinyliques colophane-acide gras présentant des propriétés permettant leur utilisation comme composants d'encollages de papier, comme composants de revêtements, et comme résines supports pour la production de réseaux polymères pouvant être employés dans la formulation de revêtements et d'encres à base aqueuse. Plus particulièrement, lesdites compositions polymères vinyliques colophane-acide gras sont des mélanges obtenus par réaction de polymérisation par addition de monomères vinyliques, en présence d'acides gras saturés, d'acides dimères hydrogénés, de colophanes hydrogénés et de mélanges de ces produits.
