ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel rotary compressor housing is provided herein for use in a sliding-vane type compressor. It includes a center housing, the center housing having the outer periphery thereof integrally formed with reinforcing grids. Such grids contain circumferentially and axially extending ribs, and front and rear side housings fastened to the center housing with the intervention of a plurality of bolts. The center housing is formed with a plurality of thickened portions which extend the entire axial length thereof and through which the bolts pass the thickened portions being peripherally connected with each other by the reinforcing grids. In this manner, the inner periphery of the center housing can expand thermally without losing its circular shape. The advantages offered by this construction are namely that the compressor performance is not lowered by a temperature-rise due to an unavoidable adiabatic air-compression, and a scuffing or seizing trouble is substantially avoided in such type of compressor.
