Abstract A rotary electric machine is arranged to comprise a stator including an annular stator core formed at its inner surface with circumferentially spaced and axially extending slots and a stator winding mounted in said slots. A rotor includes a rotor core formed axially shorter than the stator core. A rotor winding is wound on the rotor core and coil retaining rings are provided to securely hold end portions of the rotor winding. A magnetically permeable device is pro- vided in the stator slots at portions opposing to the coil retaining rings. The result is a machine less prone to dynamic imbalance in the rotor and hence to undesirable vibration.
