A motor has a rotor and a stator. The stator is made up of a plurality of separate electromagnet core segments disposed coaxially about an axis of rotation. The core segments are affixed, without ferromagnetic contact with each other, to a non-ferromagnetic support structure. The rotor is configured in an annular ring that at least partially surrounds the annular stator to define two parallel axial air gaps between the rotor and stator respectively on opposite axial sides of the stator. Permanent magnets are distributed on each side of the rotor annular ring that faces an air gap. Preferably, each stator electromagnet core segments has a pair of poles aligned in a direction generally parallel to the axis of rotation with pole faces generally perpendicular to the axis of rotation. A winding is formed on a core portion that links the poles to produce, when energized, magnetic poles of opposite polarity at the pole faces.

Soit un moteur équipé d'un rotor et d'un stator. Le stator est constitué par une pluralité de segments d'électroaimant distincts disposés coaxialement autour d'un axe de rotation. Ces segments sont fixés, sans contact ferromagnétique entre eux, sur une structure porteuse non ferromagnétique. Le rotor se présente sous la forme d'une bague annulaire entourant au moins partiellement le stator annulaire, ce qui définit au moins deux entrefers axialement parallèles entre le rotor et le stator sur les côtés axiaux opposés du stator, respectivement. Des aimants permanents sont répartis sur chaque côté de la bague annulaire de rotor face à un entrefer. Chaque segment de noyau d'électroaimant de stator présente de préférence une paire de pôles alignés selon une direction généralement parallèle à l'axe de rotation, avec leurs faces généralement perpendiculaires audit axe de rotation. Un enroulement formé sur une partie noyau qui relie les pôles produit des pôles magnétiques de polarités opposées sur les faces des pôles lorsqu'il est excité.
