1176.006 S P E C I F I C A T I O N Title: ROTARY FOOD PROCESSING TOOL HAVING CHANGEABLE SLICER CUTTING PARAMETERS Inventor: JAMES E. WILLIAMS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus are provided for varying the parameters and functioning of a rotary slicer tool for use in a food processor of the type including a housing containing an electric motor drive, a bowl removably mountable on the housing for enclosing the tool, said tool being rotated by said motor drive, with a removable cover on the bowl and a feed tube for feeding food items to the rotating tool within the bowl. The rotary food processing tool has an elongated hub with a head on one end thereof and a coupling means on the other end thereof adapted to be coupled to the electric motor drive. The head of the hub has a horizontal disc-like member mounted thereon with an opening therethrough and a cutting means, for example in the form of a cutting blade, positioned at an elevated location above the opening relative to the horizontal top surface of the disc-like member. The thickness of the cut produced by the rotary food processing tool is determined by the vertical elevation between the cutting means and the horizontal top surface of the disc-like member. In accordance with the present invention in order to reduce the thickness of the slices which are cut by the rotary food processing tool, a cover disc having the same general configuration and propor- tions as the horizontal disc-like cutting member is mounted on the horizontal disc-like cutting member. When said cover disc is mounted thereon it rotates with the horizontal disc-like member, and the thickness of the cut is then determined by the distance between the cutting means and the top of said cover disc. Accordingly, the cover disc thereby reduces the thick- ness of the cut produced by the tool in accordance with the thickness of the cover disc. The cut of the rotary processing tool may therefore be varied by using removable and replaceable cover discs of different thicknesses without necessitating the complete removal and replacement of the rotary tool in the food processor. By virtue of using such removable and inter- changeable cover discs the homemaker is able to use one slicing tool to perform the equivalent of several functions which formerly required the use of several slicing tools. This conserves storage space in the kitchen, as the removable covers are relatively compact and can conveniently be stored utilizing less space than a plurality of cutting tools. Further more, certain of the covers may include secondary or auxiliary cutting blades for changing the action of the slicer tool thereby enabling a slicing tool to be converted to a French fry slicer or a Julienne slicer.
