ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rotary heat regenarator having a matrix formed of synthetic plastic, in which the dimensions of said matrix conforms to certain dimensional parameters. In one embodiment of the invention, the matrix strip is provided with transverse embossments that have a length less than that of the strip width to allow winding tension to be applied to the strip without affecting the dimensions of the embossments. The design parameters permitted by the use of plastic allows the manufacture of matrix wheels with minimum thickness which minimizes circumferential leakage.
