ABSTRACT A rotary kiln is driven on its periphery and rotates on rollers, havingstationary heads, which are located at its ends and accommodate lines and fittings for material supply, production gas exhaust and the removal of solids. The kiln is used for the thermal processing, low temperature carbonization or pyrolysis of liquid or solid materials or mixed phases. A floating slide ring seal system is provided at the inlet and outlet ends of the rotary kiln respectively for improved seating and increased durability. A force transmitting frame construction supports the rotatable connection between the rotary kiln and the two stationary heads.
