An excavating tooth point is captively retained externally on an adapter nose with a specially designed lock structure removably received in a side wall opening of the tooth point and an underlying opening in the adapter nose. The rotary lock structure includes a cylindrical body having a side portion from which a resiliently biased force exerting member and a spring-loaded detent pin outwardly project. With the adapter nose received in the tooth pocket the lock structure body is axially inserted into the tooth and adapter openings in a first rotational orientation and then forcibly rotated to a second rotational orientation. The surfaces of the tooth and nose openings are configured to radially inwardly displace the radially outwardly biased force exerting member in response to such rotation, in a manner causing the force exerting member and the lock structure body to exert on the adapter nose and tooth point a continuous resilient force tending to tighten the tooth point onto the adapter nose. As the lock structure is rotated during its installation, a ramped surface on the adapter nose cams the detent pin inwardly and then permits it to snap into a retaining pocket on the nose to thereby releasably prevent further rotation of the lock structure. The inserted lock structure may subsequently be removed by axially or rotationally driving it to shear the detent pin or using a sloping face of the retaining pocket to cam the detent pin into the lock structure body.
La présente invention vise une pointe de denture d'excavation fixée à l'extérieur d'un capuchon adaptateur à l'aide d'un dispositif de verrouillage amovible spécialement conçu que l'on introduit dans une ouverture de la paroi latérale de la pointe de la denture et dans une ouverture sous-jacente façonnée à même le capuchon adaptateur. Le dispositif de verrouillage rotatif se compose d'un corps cylindrique sur lequel font saillie, du même côté, un élément exerçant une force oblique de façon résiliente et une goupille d'arrêt à ressort. Une fois le capuchon adaptateur introduit dans le logement de la denture, le dispositif de verrouillage est inséré sur le plan axial dans les ouvertures de la denture et de l'adaptateur par une première rotation, puis ensuite tourné de force sur un autre axe de pivotement. Les surfaces des ouvertures de la denture et de l'adaptateur sont configurées pour déplacer vers l'intérieur, selon un axe radial, l'élément exerçant une force oblique vers l'extérieur en réaction à cette rotation de telle manière que l'élément exerçant cette force et le corps du dispositif de verrouillage soumettent la pointe de la denture et le capuchon adaptateur à une force résiliente continue ayant tendance à resserrer la pointe de la denture sur le capuchon adaptateur. Lorsque le dispositif de verrouillage est tourné durant sa mise en place, une surface inclinée du capuchon adaptateur enserre la goupille d'arrêt vers l'intérieur, puis lui permet de s'imbriquer dans un logement de blocage sur le capuchon pour ainsi empêcher de façon momentanée une autre rotation du dispositif de verrouillage. Après son insertion, ce dispositif de verrouillage peut être retiré par un déplacement radial ou sous l'effet d'une rotation permettant d'affranchir la goupille d'arrêt ou encore en utilisant la face inclinée du logement de blocage pour enserrer la goupille d'arrêt dans le corps du dispositif de verrouillage.
