A rotary machine having a rotatable outer drum (10) within which rotates on a different axis a rotor (13). The space between the outer drum and the inner rotor is divided into discrete arcuate compartments by vanes (15) extending across the space between the two rotating parts such that the volume of the compartments (16) varies cyclically during rotation. The vanes are rigidly attached to one of the rotating parts and extend across the space into contact with the other of the rotating parts during at least a part of the rotation of the machine. The vanes may co-operate with sliding shoes (17) or fixed grooves (20) which latter may be cylindrically formed as at (24). Such a machine may be used as an enhancement of the efficiency and economic operation of an internal combustion engine which in certain cases can overcome the problems of throttle loss at low engine speeds, or it may operate as a heat pump.
L'invention se rapporte à une machine rotative comportant un tambour externe rotatif (10) à l'intérieur duquel un rotor (13) possède un axe de rotation différent de celui de la machine. L'espace entre le tambour externe et le rotor interne est divisé en compartiments arqués et distincts par des pales (15) s'étendant à travers ledit espace situé entre les deux parties rotatives, de sorte que le volume des compartiments (16) varie de manière cyclique pendant la rotation. Les pales sont fixées de manière rigide à l'une des parties rotatives et sont disposées à travers l'espace de façon à entrer en contact avec l'autre partie rotative pendant au moins une partie de la rotation de la machine. Les pales peuvent coopérer avec des mâchoires à bride (17) ou des gorges fixes (20) qui peuvent présenter une forme cylindrique ainsi que figuré en (24). Cette machine peut servir à accroître l'efficacité et le fonctionnement économique d'un moteur à combustion interne ce qui, dans certains cas, permet de résoudre les problèmes de perte du contrôle du papillon d'admission du mélange aux faibles vitesses du moteur. Cette machine peut également fonctionner comme une pompe à chaleur.
