ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A rotary recording medium reproducing apparatus capable of performing special reproduction for reproducing recorded information signals from a rotary recording medium in which the information signals are recorded in a spiral manner or in concentric tracks by use of a reproducing stylus, where the reproducing stylus is forcibly moved to change the reproducing track upon generation of an external control signal, comprises a detector for generating a rotation detection signal responsive to the rotating speed of said rotary recording medium, a special reproduction synchronizing signal generator for generating a special reproduction synchronizing signal having a period which is shorter than the period of one rotation of the rotary recording medium, from a signal of one rotational period of said rotary recording medium within the reproduced signal from the rotary recording medium and the rotation detection signal supplied from the detector, an external control signal generator for generating the external control signal based on a signal obtained by variably controlling the frequency of the special reproduction synchronizing signal, and a manual switch for varying the frequency of the special reproduction synchronizing signal at the external control signal generator by an output signal respective of a connected position of the manual switch. The manual switch is positioned at a neutral position to produce the external control signal once every one rotation of the rotary recording medium to repetitively reproduce the same track upon non-operational state of the manual switch. Moreover, the manual switch varies the frequency of the external control signal so as to vary a reproduction speed ratio of the reproduced signal in a step manner according to the operational connected position of the manual switch upon operational state of the manual switch.
