ABSTRACT ROTARY SLIDING GATE VALVES FOR MOLTEN MATERIALS A rotary sliding gate valve for metal melts includes a frusto-conical valve member 7 which is mounted to rotate in a stator 8 and has a flow passage 10 passing through it transverse to the axis of rotation which may be selectively brought into communication with a flow passage 11 in the stator. The valve includes a drive member 40 and a mechanical coupling 31 arranged to transmit rotational movement from the drive member 40 to the valve member 7 but to permit relative axial movement of the drive member and the valve member and angular and radial displacements of the valve member. At least one spring member 58 acts between the drive member 40 and the valve member 7 via an intermediate disc 24 to press the peripheral surface of the valve member into contact with the seating surface 9 of the stator.
