An improved rotary trimmer having a blade guard is shown and described. The blade guard features a circular outer rim flexibly mounted on curved spokes to a central hub which is concentrically mounted along side a circular cutting blade for rotational motion. The rim is positioned adjacent to and overlying the cutting edge of the blade and deflects elastically away from the blade edge when sheet material is engaged for cutting by the blade, the rim returning to a circular shape when the cut is completed.
