ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An on-load tap selector for a transformer comprises a plurality of uniformly spaced-apart first contacts and mov- able carrier means carrying main contact means and a pair of bridging contacts electrically connected by an impedance. During a tap selection, when the main contact means is moved from a chosen first contact to an adjacent, selected first contact, the bridging contacts maintain bridging contact with the chosen and selected first contacts. The bridging contacts are mounted on a linkage carried by the carrier means. The linkage is operable to vary the separa- tion between the bridging contacts in the direction of move- ment of the carrier means.
