A plunger lift for a well is provided comprising a tube having an exterior surface in which is formed a spiral groove. The tube also has a flow-through passage extending lengthwise through the tube and a valve seat in the tube surrounding the flow-through passage. A valve closure member is provided having a surface shaped to engage and seal, up against the valve seat and close the flow-through passage. The spiral groove allows the plunger lift to rotate as it moves through the well, allowing it to move at a faster rate of speed and with less resistance. In addition, the flow-through passage allows the tube to pass swiftly down the well, when the valve closure member is disengaged.
