ABSTRACT A rotary cross cutter, comprising two cutter drums arranged one above the other with the upper cutter drum being yieldingly mounted in the machine frame and adapted to be lifted by means of a sensor-controlled lifter element such as a double-acting cylinder-piston, the sensor of which responds to enforced raising of the upper cutter drum, by reason of, for example, accumulation of material to be cut.
