ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rotating field eddy current inspection device comprises a transmit coil having a plurality of transmit windings. A coil form supports the transmit windings in a circumferential arrangement having an axial dimension, each transmit winding extending around the circum- ferential arrangement and having a plurality of axial segments extending along at least part of the axial dimension. A receive coil having at least one receive winding extends around the circumferential arrangement and a circuit is connected to each of the transmit windings for applying an electrical alternating signal to each transmit winding that is out of phase from each other transmit winding to produce a rotating and alternating magnetic field around the circumferential arrangement. The field is applicable to conductive material to be testing around the circumferential arrangement to produce eddy currents in the material. An eddy current measuring circuit is connected to the receive winding. The receive winding receives the rotating alternating magnetic field from the eddy currents of the material to produce eddy currents in the receive coil that are measured by the eddy current measuring circuit.
