The invention provides an electric fireplace flame simulator having an excellent means of simulating flames, namely a rotator with light-emitting variegated slots for flame simulation in electric fireplaces, comprising a light source mounted within a rotatable hollow cylinder, the cylinder having a multiplicity of slots in a middle portion of the cylinder, and a multiplicity of narrower slots toward each end of the cylinder, that disperse heat from the light source and through which light can be emitted from a light source to simulate larger central flames and smaller more flickering flames toward each end of the cylinder upon the cylinder being rotated about the light source.
