The present invention provides liquid formulations, especially oral formulations, of live rotaviruses useful as vaccines. The invention also provides lyophilized formulation of live rotavirus useful, when reconstituted, as vaccines. The vaccine formulations provide a stable environment to preserve the effectiveness of live rotavirus vaccines. Methods for the preparation of the liquid and lyophilized formulations are described. Methods of use of the formulations in the prevention and amelioration of rotavirus induced disease are also described.
