A compressor having a rotor assembly within which a rotor is rotated on an eccentric shaft in a sealed chamber. Two or more intake ports are provided that open into the sealed chamber and two or more exhaust ports are provided with one way valves, to permit compressed gas to exit the sealed chamber. The geometry of the rotor and sealed chamber and eccentric drive are such that apices of the rotor remain in contact with a peripheral wall of the sealed chamber as the rotor rotates and apex seals are provided on the apices of the rotor to prevent leakage of the gas around the apices of the rotor. In a preferred embodiment the rotor is a multi-lobed rotor orbiting within a trochoidal chamber.

Compresseur doté d'un ensemble rotor dans lequel un rotor tourne sur un arbre excentrique dans une chambre hermétique. Au moins deux orifices d'admission sont prévus et s'ouvrent sur la chambre hermétique, et au moins deux orifices d'échappement sont prévus et sont dotés de clapets antiretour, pour permettre à du gaz comprimé de sortir de la chambre hermétique. La géométrie du rotor, de la chambre hermétique et de l'arbre d'entraînement excentrique est telle que les parties sommitales du rotor demeurent en contact avec une paroi périphérique de la chambre hermétique pendant que le rotor tourne, les parties sommitales du rotor étant dotées d'un joint d'étanchéité pour empêcher les fuites de gaz par les parties sommitales du rotor. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, le rotor est multilobé et tourne à l'intérieur d'un stator.
