A ROTOR FOR A ROTARY MACHINE AND A METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME Abstract of the Disclosure A rotor for a rotary machine has a core member consisting of a plurality of pieces and a shaft that is inserted through and secured in an aperture in the core member. Annular grooves having rugged bottom surfaces are formed in the shaft at positions slightly inwardly of end surfaces of the core member. Portions of the core member are caused to flow plastically into these grooves so that the shaft and the core member are fastened together.
