ABSTRACT A rotor of the type of a propeller or a turbine having a set of rotor blades and an annular shroud coincident with radially outward ends of the blades for simultaneous rotation with the rotor. The invention proposes a particular cross-sectional configuration of the shroud such that a lift force is generated at the shroud under effective axial flow conditions normally generated by the rotor or driving same. The shroud is disposed such that its suction side or surface faces radially inwardly. The invention presents a simple and thus inexpensive structure in combination with an increased efficiency rating by increasing the flow-through of air or other medium through the rotor.
