A "rotor hanger" device for alleviating or eliminating the downward pull on drive rods in an oil or gas well is inserted in-line with a tubing string. At surface prior to this insertion, an orbiting sub is connected to the top end of the stator, and the rotor is kept backed out of the stator and the orbiting sub. A six foot long drive rod is then connected to the rotor. Next, a bearing housing is joined to the orbiting sub by sliding the drive rod through the orbiting sub, thereby sliding the rotor into the stator. Once the bearing housing is threaded to the top end of the orbiting sub, the assembly may be lifted and installed into the well bore. The present device is used to space the rotor within the stator, and to space or stabilize the top end of any pump in the casing. An on-off tool is provided at the top end of the rotor hanger to provide a connection between the sucker rods and the bearing assembly, and hence to ultimately transfer drive to the drive rod. The on-off tool and sucker rods can be kept snug by pulling on the rods to provide a slight tension.
