A sliding compound mitre saw wherein the traditional rotunda or turn table is omitted and is replaced by a "live" surface saw car- riage, to provide a more robust yet more economical to manufacture saw. In addition to above feature, the novel saw carriage is linea- rly guided by alternative slide rails rigidly mounted in a novel slide rail bed, which is pivotably mounted on the base to provide for mitre cut capability. Except for the "live" surface character- istic, the operation and capabilities are identical to traditional sliding compound mitre saws.
