- 18 - ROUND BALE CONVEYORS AND TWINE PROTECTORS THEREFORE ABSTRACT Conventionally, round bales bound with twine are conveyed by a pair of chain type conveyors running in U-shaped channels and the roller chain side plates of the conveyor chains rub and abrade the twine leading to breakage of the twine and possible dissolution of the bale. Shown are two embodiments to prevent this. Firstly a round sectioned rod may be welded to the outer edge of the inner side plates of the channels against which the bale slides and secondly, the preferred embodiment shows a die cast channel having at least the inner side plate flaring outwardly and over to present a relatively smooth rounded surface to the bale surface and twine sliding thereover. Both embodiments raise the surface of the bale and relieve the pressure contact between the surface and the upper edges of the roller chain side plates.
