A rubber mixture, in particular for the rolling surface of a tire, said mixture being based on at least one polymer from the group of diene rubbers, containing in addition 5 - 100 parts/wt of finely divided, precipitated salicic acid, 0 to 80 parts/wt carbon black, optionally 0.2 to 10 parts/wt silane coupling agent, and 0.5 to 20 parts/wt of at least one non-aromatic viscosity-reducing substance, relative in each instance to 100 parts/wt of rubber in the mixture. According to the present invention, the viscosity-reducing, non-aromatic substance is based exclusively on carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and has an area with at least two hydroxyl groups that are present as 1,2- or 1,3-diol, and an area of at least two chemically bonded carbon atoms, neither these nor their chemically bonded adjacent carbon atoms being substituted with oxygen.
