The present invention relates to rubber compositions containing organo-nitriles of the formula: N~C-R-C~N (I) wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkylenes having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms, alkylenes having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms which are substituted with N, O, S, hydroxy, alkoxy having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, arylenes having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms and alkarylenes having from 7 to 10 carbon atoms.
