A film of a polymer or polymer precursor such as an epoxy resin is autodeposited on an active metal surface and then used to form an adhesive bond directly between the metal surface and the surface of a rubber substrate. Excellent adhesion of the metal to the rubber is obtained without the need to either phosphate the metal surface or use a primer or adhesive other than the autodeposited coating.

Une couche mince d'un polymère ou d'un précurseur polymère tel qu'une résine époxyde est autodéposée sur une surface métallique active et ensuite utilisée pour former une liaison adhésive directement entre la surface métallique et la surface d'un substrat en caoutchouc. Une excellente adhésion du métal au caoutchouc est obtenue sans devoir soit phosphater la surface métallique soit utiliser une amorce ou un adhésif autre que le revêtement autodéposé.
