ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Purified soluble antigen, specific for rubella virus, is isolated from growth media of rubella-infected cell cultures by affinity and gel permeation chromatography and characterized, inter alia, by its specific activity. Antigen-sensitized particles are employed as immunoassay reagents in, for example, agglutination assays for detection and quantification of rubella antibodies in body fluids such as serum, spinal fluid and the like.
