ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lamp assembly for a runway is disclosed. In a housing is disposed a single prism which has an apex projecting above the cover of the housing. A light source located below the prism produces light which is focussed by a parabolic reflector through the bottom of the prism. The light is internally reflected within the prism before emerging from the projecting portion near the apex. The bottom surface of the prism may be ground to provide focussing within the prism. In use the assembly is mounted in a runway with a cover plate flush with the ground. The basic form of the prism can thus be modified easily to satisfy different optical requirements.
