A top-hat shaped element which forms part of a pressure relief assembly. The element is positioned between high and low pressure fluids and has an annular wall which ruptures at a pre-determined pressure for release of the high pressure fluid to the lower pressure. The element has a tubular body with an annular ring at a first end for securing the element between the high and low pressures fluids. The tubular body is closed with a head at a second end for forming a chamber within. A thin annular wall spaces the head from the ring. Under differential pressures, the annular wall is stressed and ruptures, the load under which the rupture occurs being predictable with some precision. 16
