A rust and corrosion preventive compound represented by the following general formula: Image (I) wherein n is an integer having a value of from 1 to 300, each R1 is an alkylene group of from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, an arylene group of from 6 to 30 carbon atoms or a cycloalkylene group of from 6 to 30 carbon atoms, with the proviso when n is an integer having a value of 2 or more, the R1 groups may be identical with or different from one another, and R2 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, an aryl group of from 6 to 30 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group of from 6 to 30 carbon atoms.
