ABSTRACT Novel dicarboxylic ester-acids resulting from the condensation of an alkenylsuccinic anhydride with an aliphatic hydroxy acid having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms and amine salts of such ester- acids are useful as rust or corrosion inhibitors in organic compositions. These novel dicarboxylic ester-acids have the formula Image where R is an alkenyl group having from 4 to 24 carbon atoms, and R1 is hydrogen, C1-C16 alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, carboxy or C1-C16 alkyl carboxy, and amine salts thereof.
