ACID TREATED FILTER CLAY WITH SACRIFICIAL CATALYST USED FOR REFINING USED MOTOR OILS OF THE DETERGENT TYPE ABSTRACT DISCLOSURE A sacrificial catalyst - a formulated additive made up of a combination of mineral and metallic salts. This formula when added to most acid treated filter clays used in the used motor oil refining industry, allows the refiner to modify the acid clay motor oil refining process currently practised, by elimination of the acid treatment phase of the process. Raw used motor oil of the detergent type may be treated with catalyzed acid treated clay then heated and filtered in the same manner as is practised on oil that has first been treated with sulfuric acid. The resultant recovered oil will be equal to or better than the best oil recovered by the acid clay process.
