There is described a protective saddle cover for a riding saddle that includes a one piece central portion that fits overtop of the raised seat of the saddle and the saddle horn, a first and second stirrup holder, attached to opposite sides of the central portion, covering both the stirrup leather and stirrup of the riding saddle. The first and second stirrup holders contain end pockets into which the stirrups are placed, thereby maintaining the stirrup holders securely overtop of the stirrup leathers. The end pocket of the first stirrup holder can also conveniently be used to convert the protective saddle cover to a transportable pouch when folded.
