The invention relates to method of safely starting a vehicle, comprising the following steps, consisting in: connecting either of the two input/output terminal pairs (ES1, ES2) or (ES3, ES4) to the run down battery (5) and the other input/output terminal pair (ES1, ES2) or (ES3, ES4) to the power source (2) independently of polarity, the connection means being open; detecting the voltage and polarity at the terminals of each of the pairs and comparing the voltages at the terminals (ES1, ES2) and (ES3, ES4) with a pre-determined threshold value; and configuring the links of the connecting means between the terminals of the two terminal pairs such that terminals of the same polarity can be connected to one another using conductive links, at least one of which is controlled by a general switch (8).

Le procédé de démarrage sécurisé d'un engin selon l'invention comprend les étapes suivantes : la connexion d'un quelconque des deux dits couples de bornes entrée/sortie (ESl, ES2) ou (ES3, ES4) à la dite batterie déchargée (5) et l'autre des deux dits couples de bornes entrée/sortie (ESl, ES2) ou (ES3, ES4) à la dite source d'énergie (2), et indépendamment de toute notion de polarité, le moyen de connexion étant ouvert, la détection de tension et de polarité aux bornes de chacun des couples et la comparaison des tensions aux bornes (ESl, ES2) et (ES3, ES4) avec une valeur de seuil prédéterminée, la configuration des liaisons des moyens de connexion entre les bornes des deux couples de bornes de manière à ce que les bornes de même polarité puissent être connectées entre elles par des liaisons conductrices dont au moins l'une est commandée par un interrupteur général (8).
