A safety apparatus for installation on an ATV features at least one support arm arranged for connection to a rear end of the ATV to extend rearwardly therefrom to a supporting end that, with longitudinal and transverse axes of the ATV disposed in a horizontal plane, is disposed at a height above a lowermost point of the ATV. A ground contacting device supported by the at least one supporting arm at the supporting end thereof to extend parallel to the transverse axis of the ATV. Installation of the safety apparatus on the ATV limits upward movement of front wheels relative to the rear wheels by blocking pivotal motion of the ATV about its rear wheel axle past a point where the ground contacting device comes into contact with a ground surface. The apparatus prevents rearward tipping of the ATV to improve rider safety.
