SAFETY BELT BUCKLE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A safety belt buckle includes a housing that is formed of at least first, second and third members that are in contact with one another and that are secured together, the second member being located between the first and second members. Each of the three members has at least one opening extending therethrough, and at least parts of the openings are in substantial alignment with one another. The second member has a channel which extends inwardly from an edge thereof to receive a cooperat- ing tongue of the safety belt buckle. A movable latching device extends in and is movable within the openings of at least the second and third members. The latching device also is movable into and out of the aforementioned channel. A manually operable actuation device is provided to actuate the latching device, a portion of the actuation device extending in and movable within the opening of at least the first member. The second member is formed of a polymeric material and includes guides on either side of the channel which extend to a point of termination on an exterior surface of the housing to guide the tongue into the housing. The guides form part of the exterior surface of the housing. The housing may be provided with a protective cover.
