ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A safety device for detecting an electrical defect in a machine having a chassis comprises a latch circuit switchable from an initial state to an output state in response to an input signal. In the output state, the latch circuit generates an output signal suitable for activating an alarm device. A semiconductor circuit generates the input signal in response to a fault signal. This in turn is developed across a high resistance connected between the machine chassis and a point in the electrical circuit of the machine.
