ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A safety device for a passenger conveyor is disclosed which comprises a thrust means having a support rod shiftably held by a stationary part and having a roller rotatably mounted at the forward end of the support rod so as to abut against the handrail of the conveyor, a tension application means to apply tension to the handrail through the roller of the support rod, an actuating means provided at the base end portion of the support rod, and a detecting means to detect the shift of the support rod through the actuating means.
