ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A safety device for passenger conveyors which prevents foreign bodies from becoming jammed, the device comprising a switching element which serves to halt the conveyor and which is actuated by horizontally mobile comb-segments and/or a rotat- ably arranged carrier-plate in the stationary part of the entry, characterized in that the switching element, in the form of a switch is actuated by a toggle-lever operated by a switch rod, one arm of the lever being connected to a tappet rod acted upon by a compression spring, so that when one or more comb-segments are displaced, and/or when the carrier-plate is lifted by pivoting about its centre of rotation, the conveyor is halted by actuation of the switch.
