SAFETY FASTENER Abstract of the Disclosure The specification discloses a safety fastener for use on jewellery, dog leads, sports articles, etc. The safety fastener consists of a tubular casing and a locking member slidable within the casing, both casing and locking members having openings therein. The locking member is slidable between a first position, where the openings in the casing and locking member coincide and an element to be locked can be inserted in the openings, and a second position where the locking member blocks the opening in the casing and prevents removal of the element. The casing and the locking member have cooperating wedge- shaped portions which produce a wedging effect gripping the locking member in the casing when the former is in the second position. This arrangement produces a fastener having little or no tendency to fall open accidentally when the article secured by the fastener is being worn.
